Ramble in the Woods 2013

Ramble in the Woods 2013 flyerPeople from all over Nottinghamshire joined the campaign group Save Sherwood Forest for their annual Ramble in the Woods on Sunday 21st April.  The event usually takes place in March, to coincide with the anniversary of the governments U-Turn on their proposed policy to sell off the Public Forest Estate in 2011 and to celebrate World Forest Day.  This year, however, the heavy snow caused it to be re-arranged for April.

Paddy Tipping, member of Save Sherwood Forest and President of Notts Ramblers welcomed over 50 people to the walk by saying that we had proved our power to band together in a common cause to protect our forests, but now we needed to continue to ensure that they were properly funded both at a county and national level.  The route started from Sherwood Forest Visitor Centre and followed part of the Robin Hood Way before returning via the Major Oak.  At intervals during the ramble there were poetry readings and comment regarding the ongoing campaign to safeguard the Public Forest Estate and the threats posed to woods in the west of the county by the High Speed Rail Link.
